Reico Carter

Reico was one of the best players in the 4th region during his high school basketball career. While playing for Cumberland County High School Reico scored 1,322 points and grabbed 760 rebounds. In 1995 Reico was selected All 16th District and was voted the Panther’s team MVP. In 1996 Reico was once again selected All 16th District and the team’s MVP. Reico’s senior year in 1997 was historic, being selected All 16th District, All 4th Region, Honorable Mention All State and the 4th Region Player of the Year. Reico also had an award winning career in track. In 1997 he was a member of the 4 x 800 meter relay team that finished as Regional runner-up and advanced to State.

1986-1988 CCHS Boys Varsity Cheerleaders

One of the great Cheerleading teams in Kentucky High School history. Beginning in 1986 the CCHS Boys Varsity Cheerleaders won 3 consecutive 16th District Championships, 3 consecutive 4th Region championships, and finished 3rd in the state competition in 1986 and state runner up in both 1987 and 1988. They also won the Originality Award at the state competition all 3 of these years. In 1987 and 1988 this team qualified for the National Cheerleading Competition. Competing against teams from all over the United States, this group of young ladies finished 7th in the nation at Orlando, Florida in 1987 and 15th in the nation at Dallas, Texas in 1988.

Sonya Fudge, one of the all time great Lady Panther basketball players

Sonya Fudge

One of the all time great Lady Panther basketball players. Sonya was named All 16th District in 1983, 1984 and 1985. In both 1984 and 1985 Sonya was named to the All 4th Region team and was voted the teams most valuable player. And in 1985 Sonya was named Honorable Mention All State. Sonya also played softball at CCHS, and was voted the team MVP in 1985, After graduating from Cumberland County High School Sonya continued her basketball career at Lindsey Wilson College, where she started in 91 of the 93 games that she participated in and became the schools all time leader scorer and rebounder. She was the first Lady Raider to score over 1,000 career points.

William Nelson Hurt

As a sophomore in 1965 at Cumberland County High School William came off the bench in the 16th district tournament and was the teams leading scorer, made the All District team and lead the Panthers to the 16th district championship. William was also named All District in 1966. William was the basketball team’s leading scorer both his junior and senior years. An outstanding free throw shooter, William lead the team in free throw percentage for 3 consecutive years. In 1972 the Cumberland County News selected William as a member of the county’s all time basketball team. William was also a three year starter in football, playing quarterback, offensive end and defensive end.

Gary Morgan

Gary Morgan

A four sport star at Cumberland County High School. Gary was an outstanding basketball player, earning All 16th District in 1968 and then in 1969 being named All 16th District, All 4th Region and Honorable Mention All State. In 1972 Gary was recognized by the Cumberland County News as a member of the County’s All Time Basketball team, the All Time Baseball Team as a catcher and the All Time Football team as a halfback. Gary also placed first in four events in the Panthers first district track meet championship. After graduating from CCHS Gary was a member of the basketball program at Western Kentucky University and became one of the areas great power hitters in men’s softball.

Lewis Williams, Coach

Coaching basketball for 9 seasons beginning in 1948, Mr. Lewis Williams compiled the highest winning percentage of any coach in Cumberland County school history. Beginning in 1953 his teams won 4 consecutive district tournaments, and the teams from 1953 through 1955 had a combined won loss record of 83 wins and only 9 losses. Mr. Williams was the coach of the 1955 Panther team, which is considered the greatest team in county history. This team entered the regional tournament semi-final game with a perfect record of 30 wins and no losses. After ending his coaching career Lewis Williams served the people of Cumberland County for 28 years as the Cumberland County Clerk.
