Martha Norris Memorial High School Basketball Team 1926-27

Only basketball team from Cumberland County to compete in the Kentucky High School State Tournament. Lost only game in Quarter-Finals to eventual winner of the tournament (Millersburg Military Academy), who was subsequently disqualified for using ineligible players. Only seven players from Marrowbone participated in the regional and state tournament. One of the best players was not allowed by parents to travel Louisville (Regionals) and to Lexington (State). Credited with inventing the Fast Break basketball style of play. Did not have a gymnasium, practiced on an outdoor court, and thus played all games on/in opponents home courts. Team members--Irvin Huddleston, Samuel Alexander, Joe Turner, Frank Alexander, Paul Strange, James Davis, Mitch Thurman, and Irby Wilson
